The priorities that were top of our designers’ mind when they designing the ELIET ULTRA PROF, were to develop a machine that caused as little hindrance to its immediate environment during use as possible. In addition to its excellent performance, this chipper is also environmentally friendly and above all, safe with regard to the immediate environments.
The discharge system is well integrated aesthetically into the striking design of the machine. A short and fast rotating discharge conveyor removes the wood chips that are leaving the chipping chamber. The chippings are, moreover, only projected out of the machine with a slight force so that the safety of any possible passer-by can be guaranteed. The discharge conveyor takes the waste chippings up to a height of a 120 cm which makes loading a wheel barrow or a trailer straightforward. The discharge system is very silent which means less overall noise radiation.
HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINES
The ELIET series features a petrol engine for the ULTRA PROF which delivers sensitive engine response and sharp acceleration. Two engine suppliers have been selected : B&S Vanguard and Honda. They supply a 22 HP or 24 HP engine respectively for this exceptional chipper. The beneficial features of the ELIET chipping system include that the power of these engines is exploited to full advantage giving a fuel consumption as low as 2.5 litres/hour.
WIDE FEED-IN OPENING
In order to exploit the extra engine power to the full, infeed speed should be adapted accordingly. To accomplish this, the infeed opening on Ultra Prof series chippers is as large as possible without compromising on compactness. The bottom of the feed hopper is flat which means that inserting either wood or bulk green waste becomes comfortable.
A speed governor is standard with every ULTRA PROF. This is a hydraulic valve that offers the option to the operator to set the maximum speed for feeding the material in manually for both the feed roller and the feed belt depending on the type of green waste. This ensures that you again have the option to get the highest performance from the chipper.
HYDRAULIC FEED ROLLER
The very back of the feed channel features a powerful feed roller conveying the green waste to the chipping knives in a controlled manner. Gas springs provide a uniform pressure on the feed roller to maintain constant grip on the branches. Hydraulically operated, the feed roller can rotate in both the clockwise and counterclockwise direction with an easy to operate control.
The blades that do the work are made of a special steel alloy that has the aim of maximising blade life (200 hours with a set of blades is no exception). What is more, the blades are easy to sharpen. The splitting action of the chipping system will not require precision sharpening of the blades : A simple angle grinder will do the job nicely. The mounting arrangement and accessibility of the blades inside the machine allow sharpening without the need for removal. The blade edge is profiled. This toothing adds to the keenness of the blades to chop through the wood. Each blade has two reversible cutting edges, this means that the blades can be used to the full.
HYDRAULIC WHEEL DRIVE
Mobile chippers : ELIET's credo for years. As a result, at ELIET we keep with the philosophy of driving the chipper to the green waste material and not the other way. In combination with the superfast chipping technology of the ULTRA PROF, a time saving of 50% can be easily achieved. Wheel drive is hydraulic. Each wheel has a dedicated heavy-duty wheel motor. A straightforward to operate handlebar mounted rotary handle is used for controlling the oil supplied to the wheel motors. Steering is proportional : The more you turn the handle, the faster the machine moves in the chosen direction. As a result, you move this machine – quite heavy at 450 kg – freely within a garden with the greatest of ease. Also, driving the machine on and off a van or trailer is as easy as can be.
LOW GROUND PRESSURE
The total weight of the chipper is 450 kg. As the chipper is mobile it may well be manoeuvred on less stable ground. That is why we have kept ground bearing pressure as low as possible in order to prevent tyre sinkage or rut formation. Load distribution is as follows : Front axle load is 176 kg and rear axle load is 320 kg. Taking into account the tyre size, ground pressures are 0.9 kg/cm² and 0.8 kg/cm² respectively.
A compact design was the starting point when designing the Ultra Prof. This is characterised by the narrow wheel base (90 cm). In addition, the centre of gravity was also kept as low possible in order to increase stability. The requirements, however, are even somewhat higher under certain extreme conditions. For this, ELIET offer an option for extending the supporting surface of the driving wheels. Suitable additional parts can be used to mount double wheels so that the wheel base is then 130 cm.
With this electronic device you can make the most of your chipper. The system monitors the number of revolutions of the engine. When engine speed drops below a critical number of revolutions while chipping, material feed speed is reduced accordingly. This is in order to take the strain off the blade system for a short time, thus removing any undue strain upon the engine and allowing to increase speed to maximum revolutions. This action takes but a fraction of a second without the operator hardly noticing. The RPM curve of the engine when running can be kept rather flat within a given range, which cuts fuel consumption. Optimum combustion conditions will reduce engine wear.
The key factor for making good compost and waste chippings as decorative weed suppressant is uniformity in cuttings. This is the basic requirement for ELIET chippers for both wood waste and leafy green waste. To this effect, a calibrating sieve is fitted downstream the blade system. This calibrating sieve makes sure the chips remain in the chipping chamber until they are small enough to pass through the tiny holes of the sieve. The chippings are intensively bruised through subsequent multiple cutting actions, which gives them an ideal texture for the best possible composting. The chipping system provides, in other words, added value to the composting process.
ECO EYE SYSTEM
At ELIET we want to go one step further in our efforts to build more environmentally friendly machines ; this has lead to the development of EcoEye™ Technology, a system that analyses engine behaviour. When the system notices that the machine is no longer being actively used, it will automatically switch the engine to idle. A machine-mounted infrared sensor detects the operator approaching the front of the feed hopper with green waste. At this point, the EcoEyeTM system causes the engine to go from idle to full thus allowing the machine to cut the green waste material at full power. In short, EcoEyeTM reduces fuel consumption and emissions when the engine is idling.
The main purpose in designing the Ultra Prof series chippers is to offer the user outstanding chipping performance. Even the service technician charged with maintaining the machine has not been overlooked.
While an Ultra Prof series chipper is an example of compactness and safety, the machine gives easy access to each critical part when performing maintenance work. As with sports cars, the large polyester machine guards fold away like butterfly doors. With the guards tucked neatly away, the engine, belts, chains, filters, valves, bearings and lube points are made easily accessible. Likewise, it takes but 20 seconds to remove the discharge conveyor to provide access to the blades. The blade shaft is fitted to the perfect ergonomic height for ease in maintenance (in grinding, reversing, replacing). A display on the dashboard not only gives visual indication of the number of revolutions and the run time, but will tell when maintenance is due.
The large petrol tank with a capacity of 20 litres, allows this machine to run for one workday without the need to refill the tank. There are many more small details that will make a big difference in maintaining and operating your Ultra Prof.
