Memorial sites for World War I victims officially recognised by UNESCO!

After many attempts, it has finally happened: cemeteries of WW1 are now also part of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. A total of 139 World War I memorial and cemeteries have been added to the list, including 27 in Flanders, specifically in the Westhoek region.

The CWGC, Commonwealth War Graves Commission, the British body responsible for managing cemeteries, is thrilled with the UNESCO recognition. As the preferred supplier of lawn care machinery for the CWGC, ELIET is very proud that the cemeteries are on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Indeed, ELIET is jointly responsible for setting the tone for a well cared for resting place, as a valuable tribute to all WW1 victims. It is extremely important that we continue to remember and tell the story of the First World War. The UNESCO recognition also confirms this.
